My background is in business. Therefore, when I was discussing with my colleagues and heard words like PaaS, IaaS, SaaS, my head started spinning because I couldn’t distinguish what is what 😂. That is just a small signal that I need to equip myself with new knowledge (of course, I did Google it 🤣, or if it is happening now that something I know less about, I will ChatGPT it 😁. I am not sure if someday Cambridge Dictionary will add a new verb for the action of using ChatGPT, but that is another story).
Coming back to my story, I decided to get the AZ-900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals because my company is moving towards Azure, and I want to be ready for it, or at least know something about it. As my routine for every certification, I first get an overview of the exam, what to learn, how to learn, and one of my first steps is to ‘book the exam’. That’s why on a beautiful day of 23rd January, I registered for the exam because when I spend money to book the exam, I will not escape anymore. My schedule for the exam is on 24th February. Within that one month, I have learned and completed modules and practice tests in Microsoft Learn.

Some days before the test date, I did the system test to make sure that my laptop and network are suitable for the exam. My exam starts at 8:15 CET on 24th February, and I joined 15 minutes earlier to do the check-in. For the check-in, I need to take photos of my ID and my room where I take the exam. After checking, I was in a kind of online lobby where I saw 26 people were in a queue waiting for the proctor for checking in. After 30 mins of waiting, it was my turn. The proctor just asked me about some books and papers near my table, and I showed her that those documents are out of my arm’s reach => everything is fine. Even though the exam started later than scheduled due to the long process of checking in, I was still allowed to take the exam. Therefore, if you are in the same situation, no need to worry, everything is fine.
My exam had 34 questions which needed to be completed in 45 minutes. Most of the questions were statements where I needed to choose if the statement is true (Yes) or not (No). Compared to the practice test questions, the exam questions were trickier. My personal opinion is that some of the questions test understanding rather than just learning by heart. At the end of the exam, I got the result showing on the screen. And similar to all the exams I have been through (except for the German exam, which I will share with you in another story 😂), I passed 😁. At the moment of taking this exam, the required score for passing this exam is 700, and I got 889 😎.
I did not receive the certification right after the exam. Therefore, if you also do not get the certification, don’t panic, wait for some days, and you will receive an email from Microsoft saying that you passed the exam, and you will find your certification in your Profile\Credentials.
Now when I hear someone mention these words PaaS, IaaS, SaaS – I will proudly present that I know what it is. I can even tell lots of examples for it 🤣. But this journey is not stopping there. I am now doing the Microsoft Learn AI Skills Challenge where I got a chance to do one certification for free. Will share more details in the next post.
