Blue is my favorite color. My backpack for work is blue, my yoga mat is blue, and even my reading bone (Leseknochen) is adorned in shades of blue. Whenever I buy something, if it comes in multiple colors at the same price, I always opt for blue. So far, there hasn’t been any difference in price among the colors, except for… well, there’s always an exception – my iPhone.
Let me tell you a small story within this story about this iPhone. I’ve always been an Android user since I got my first smartphone. The first Android phone I bought with my hard-earned money from a part-time job in Germany cost me €199 from Mediamarkt. At that time, I chose a blue Samsung because there was no price difference for colors. During my master’s degree, both my peers and my innovation professor were big fans of iPhones. Almost 90% of my peers were using iPhones, and many of them had the latest model in their hand. As for my professor, he was the biggest fan, even dedicating a lecture to praising the innovation of Apple and their products (I wondered if he had partnered with Apple to include this in the lecture, but never mind 😂). He spoke about his iPhone with such passion.
After three years, my blue Samsung’s performance started to decline, and it was time to buy a new phone. I decided to give the iPhone a try, following my motto: “I’ll never know if I don’t try.” After researching and deciding on the iPhone generation, I realized that when it came to color, the blue option cost €10 more compared to others. What on earth was this about? Despite the price difference, my love for blue led me to purchase a blue iPhone.
Now, back to the main story. I have so many clothes in blue. One day, I wore a blue dress to the office and went for coffee with my German colleagues. With my “moderate German skills” but boldness to speak up, I said, “Ich bin blau heute” (I am blue today). They burst into laughter, and I couldn’t understand why. Then they said, “Du bist blau, an einem Montag, nicht schlecht” (You’re blue, on a Monday, not bad). Now, I was utterly confused. What did my blue dress have to do with Monday?
They explained that if I wanted to say I was wearing blue today, I should have said “Ich trage heute blau” (I’m wearing blue today), because “Ich bin blau” means “I am drunk.” Haha, good to know! With a quick response, I said, “ich bin nicht mehr blau” (I am not drunk anymore) 🤣😆.

I have read a fun fact: The color blue is often associated with trust and reliability, which is why it’s commonly used in corporate logos and branding. Companies like IBM, Facebook, and Samsung incorporate blue into their logos to convey a sense of professionalism and stability :))

hi El,
Thank you for sharing. That’s also what I heard when I was working in HR that candidates often choose a blue CV tone for the same reason 😊
